Mästarlaget planerar att besöka Vita Huset: ”Oenigheter kan uttryckas på annat sätt”
Stanley Cup-mästaren Pittsburgh Penguins gick i dag ut med ett pressmeddelande som understryker att klubben kommer att besöka Vita Huset.
Just nu har stora delar av idrottsvärlden vänt sig mot USA:s president Donald Trump. Bland annat för att han portat basketstjärnan Stephen Curry från att besöka Vita Huset – men också för att han kritiserat NFL-spelare som har valt att inte sjunga med i den amerikanska nationalsången.
Mästarlaget Pittsburgh Penguins tänker dock fullfölja sitt besök till Vita Huset, trots det rådande debattklimatet. Klubben skrev följande i ett pressmeddelande i dag:
”The Pittsburgh Penguins respect the institution of the Office of the President, and the long tradition of championship teams visiting the White House. We attended White House ceremonies after previous championships – touring the historic building and visiting briefly with Presidents George H.W. Bush and Barack Obama – and have accepted an invitation to attend again this year”.
Klubben fortsatte sitt uttalande:
”Any agreement or disagreement with a president’s politics, policies or agenda can be expressed in other ways. However, we very much respect the rights of other individuals and groups to express themselves as they see fit”.
