IIHF tar ställning – för Ryssland: ”Alla rena idrottare ska få delta i OS”
Nästa vecka kommer den internationella olympiska kommittén (IOK) med beskedet vad som händer med Rysslands deltagande i OS. Det internationella ishockeyförbundet kräver att Ryssland ska få vara med.
Det kan bli så att Ryssland som land stängs ute från OS i Sydkorea som går av stapeln i februari. Det kan också bli så att ryssar får tävla, men inte under egen flagg. Skulle så bli fallet har Ryssland hotat att dra sig ur hockeyturneringen samt stoppa andra länder från att använda sig av spelare från KHL i turneringen.
Idag kommer det internationella ishockeyförbundet (IIHF) med ett uttalande, efter att de andra hockeyförbundet (däribland det svenska) skrivit under dokumentet som säger att de vill att Ryssland ska få deltaga i hockeyturneringen.
– Vi ville tydligt visa vårt budskap till IOK, att vi är emot en kollektiv bestraffning som på ett orättvist sätt skulle straffa många ryska idrottare som inte har haft något att göra med doping, säger förbundets ordförande René Fasel till IIHF:s hemsida.
”IIHF:s rådförsamling har kommit fram till en enhällig åsikt att alla rena idrottare, inklusive de från Ryssland, måste få representera sitt land i OS 2018 i PyeongChang”, går det bland annat att läsa i uttalandet som publicerats på förbundets hemsida.

The IIHF Council has reached a unanimous opinion that all clean athletes, including those from Russia, must be permitted to represent their country in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang.
We oppose the use of collective punishment in the case of Russian athletes. Although we recognize the need to confront doping in sport, Olympic participation should not be used to sanction the many for the actions of the few. In addition, the extent to which the IOC is seeking punitive measures in the case of Russia is putting the health of ice hockey at risk.
Russia’s role in the growth and development of ice hockey cannot be understated. This country forms a pillar on which our sport’s legacy rests upon.
To preserve the integrity of the Olympic ice hockey tournaments, the IIHF in full cooperation with the Russian Ice Hockey Federation and the Kontinental Hockey League initiated a highly structured testing program for the KHL, MHL, and WHL, which went into operation in December 2016 and up to the present has tested nearly 400 Russian players.
To this effect, the IIHF Council reiterates its position that clean athletes from all qualified Federations should be permitted to go to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games and represent their countries.
